Christian Ministry for Youth Through Music.
WHAT WE DO:
Disciple13 is 4 guys, dedicated to the winning
of souls. We use the God-given talent of
music and testimony to gain the interest
of crowds, and then share the gospel in a
reverent, Christ-Like way.
It is apparent to us that Satan is hard at
work in the lives of youth today. We see
America looking for answers, hope, and love.
All of these can be found in the person of
Jesus Christ. Fortunately, we've been blessed
enough to have been led to a saving knowledge
of Christ - So now it's our job to lead others
to the same place.
Time is short and the road ahead is long,
but in Christ's strength, we will reach exactly
as many people as He'd have us reach.
We are specifically 4 guys who play upbeat
music similar to the styles of Hawk Nelson,
Sonic Flood, Third Day, Kutless, and Mercy
Me. It's a diverse mix, but we believe everything
we've done is endorsed by God.
If you're interested in having us at your
church, youth rally, youth retreat, or other
similar youth-related event, please see the
"Booking" page.
HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED:
We started a long time ago - about 12 years
ago to be exact. Darren and Greg played in
a silly little group called "SYC"
which stood for "Seeking Youth for Christ"
- not to be confused with "FYC"
(Fine Young Cannibals) which was popular
at the time. Anyway, that was a pretty good
ministry until I went off to college and
Greg moved away to work.
Several years later, God moved both Greg
and I back to Paris. When we figured that
much out, we got together for "old times
sake" and worked up a song for a special
at church. After the special, we went to
Sunday school and there was this freak in
the class saying "Man you guys sure
were good, but you need a drummer!"
We're thinking "Who's this guy?"
but the next thing we knew, we were jamming
with him. He turned out to be a pretty good
drummer - just a lot loud! (Had to get that
in, Glen) Much later, we were led to a guitar
player who is one of Greg's old friends from
kindergarten. The boy can wail, whine, and
otherwise totally tear up a guitar.
After two full years of touring with Dr.
Dave... he had to make a painful decision.
He and his wife started a family with twins.
As a result, Dave decided he needed to step
down from the band. Well, that threw us for
a loop for awhile and we even struggled with
whether or not to continue. We decided God
had put us together as a 3 man band, and
we'd continue until He made us stop. Almost
a year later and after a lot of prayer, the
awesome Mr. Keanan began praying about joining
us. A few months later, it was clear he was
chosen to join this ministry - which he has
done. Keanan has brought an incredible level
of talent and organization to the group.
The boy can rip up a guitar and come up with
incredible riffs on demand. We continually
thank God for him!
At the end of the same year that Keanan came
on board, the band was dealt another blow
with the loss of Glen as drummer. Glen felt
God was calling him to focus on his family
and local church. It appears Glen was in
the center of God's will for making this
move, because He continues to reaffirm it
through blessings. The band searched for
several months while praying and seeking
God's will for a drummer. We created a "profile"
of what we though would be a perfect drummer...
and guess what? God met every single "wish",
"hope", or "desire" that
we asked for! Imagine that! Ask and you shall
receive... So we got back on track with Kevin
as drummer for another season. And it was
a blessed season. Unfortunately, at the end
of that year, Kevin realized he needed to
trim back his activities outside the home.
Make no mistake about it, this ministry is
a lot of work and a lot of sleep deprivation.
We all wish the best for Kevin and support
him fully in his decision.
So we started praying, but not panicking,
because God's already taught us the "staffing"
lesson - and we've learned it well. With
prayer, but without much fanfare or effort,
we were led to Tim (aka Superdrummer - he's
a Superman freak). Tim has proven a blessing
and a perfect fit for the ministry. We're
looking forward to several seasons of ministering
together. How could it work out any differently
with God at the helm?
The ministry has really grown beyond our
wildest dreams and we can't wait to see what
else God has in store. He's already blessed
us with studio time, gigs, a practice place,
ample equipment, and a trailer to haul it
all in. (So how do we practice in a trailer?
- It's a secret!) We're always careful to
keep our eyes on the point which is Jesus
Christ. We've said it a hundred times and
none of us is ashamed of it - we're not as
good as people say we sound. If we sound
good, it's because God is playing our instruments
for us - we KNOW we're simply not capable.
The second we forget that key point, we're
gonna sound really really bad - like fingernails
on a chalkboard bad.
